Hi there, I’m 30 years old and have a day job in the city of London. Despite having some formal education in economics I was pretty bad with money until about 5 years ago when I started on my investment journey. I was deep in credit card debt, enjoying my overdraft to the maximum and was generally naive to the future. Most importantly I was tied to my job, living pay check to pay check in order to meet my living expenses. This meant I had very little freedom to pursue the important things to me.

Then five years ago I had a revelation and realised that if I smartened my act up, got financially educated perhaps I could  somehow build up an investment portfolio which would provide me with a passive income that would mean I am no longer tied to my day job and can do the things in life which I love!

financial independence

Now it’s been an interesting five years, I admit to having made some investment mistakes along the way, but that’s how you learn and why I call myself the “experimental investor”. I’ve tried a lot of things from silver bullion, paper assets such as shares and commodity ETFs, been on rip off real estate weekend courses and even tried to deal in diamonds! It’s been a bit of a roller coaster but I can tell you I’m certainly in a far better financial position than I was five years ago and am slowly building up my portfolio. My ultimate goal is to become financially independent by my 35th birthday, basically this means that income from my investment portfolio exceeds what I get from my job. At that point I know I can choose whether I work and it will be liberating to know even if I were to be made redundant my world would not come crashing down!!
